Christmas around the world – (Project- 6th grade)

1)Great Britain

People hang holly from the ceiling and they kiss each other under it.

Christmas dinner is: turkey, beef, mince pies, fruit flans and pudding.

2)France

In France Christmas begins on 6th December. Pere Noel (Santa Claus)

gives presents on Christmas Eve.

3)Norway

Christmas Day is called ?Julbrod?.People prepared sixty different dishes

for the family and friends in the past.

4)Russia

When the church bell rings people write their wish on a piece of paper and

put it in a glass of champagne.

5)Germany

They decorate a Christmas tree. The kids sing carols on Christmas Eve

and have a family dinner on Christmas Day.

6)England

People go to Catholic Church. Children sing Christmas carols and

on Christmas Eve they make delicious stuffed turkey with potatoes

and eat and drink all together.

7)Czech Republic

Saint Nicholas brings presents on 6th December to good children and

a bag of sticks for bad children.

8)Spain

The three Kings arrive on the night of January 5th to give presents to children.

Most towns have a carnival style parade through the streets.

9)Lithuania

On Christmas Eve families have dinner together and ?The Old man of Christmas?

(Santa Claus) comes with the presents.

10)USA

The traditional meal for Western families is turkey or ham with cranberry sauce.

Some Americans use popcorn to decorate their Christmas tree.

11)Venezuela

In Caracas, people go to early morning church services roller skating.

12)Haiti

Children place their cleaned shoes, filled with straw under the tree on the porch.

They hope that Santa will take the straw and put presents in and around the shoes.

13)Costa Rica

On Christmas Eve everyone goes to Midnight Mass. After that they have the Christmas meal:

turkey, pork tamales wrapped in leaves and drink eggnog.

14)Australia

Australians hang wreaths on their front doors and sometimes go out Christmas caroling

on Christmas Eve.

15)Japan

Parties are often held for children with games and dancing. Japanese Christmas Cake is

a sponge cake decorated with trees, flowers and a figure of Santa Claus.

16)Philippines

The most popular Christmas decoration is a bamboo frame with a lighted star in it.
